Jimi Durso has experience performing with Ray Anderson, John Faddis and John Abercrombie. He was house bassist at Harrington's, 1994-1996, and at Paula Jean's, 1997-1999, both on Long Island, New York. He has performed in bands with three New York City Marathons (1997, 2003, 2004) and at many other venues in and around New York City and Long Island.

His formal education includes studies of music theory and composition with Richard Rabbatin (1985-1988) and Steve Salerno (1988-1990), and classical guitar with David Doig (1987-1988) and Jerry Willard (1988-1992). His studies on the acoustic double bass were with Lynn Milano (1992-1994), Mike McGee (1994-1996) and Ian Murphy (1998-2000).

Jimi Durso has been teaching private students since 1987 and at the Hebrew Academy Long Beach since 1999. He won 3rd place in the Jazz Composers Alliance/Julius Hemphill Composition Awards in the Small Ensemble Category in 1999, and 2nd place in 2002.
